HH 17th. Gyalwa Karmapa

Here are the results of a quick internet search for the 17th. Karmapa.
It appears from what I found, that HHDL has invested HHK17 with his succession, whether as the titular Dalai Lama, or as a regent? Obviously, others know more than I. So I need to seek these others out; as Sarah Palin would say, "I'll get back to you."

  1. Hi there,

    With regard to your quote:
"It appears from what I found, that HHDL has invested HHK17 with his succession, whether as the titular Dalai Lama, or as a regent?"
this is actually a storyline created for the press (you can tell by the way it's copied and pasted with few changes in wording in papers all over the world). It's not possible for Orgyen Trinley to be a successor to the Dalai Lama because they come from completely different schools of Buddhism (Karma Kagyu and Gelug respectively) with different teachings and different transmissions. It's also not possible for Orgyen Trinley to be a regent for similar reasons. The idea behind the story is that he could be some kind of popular figurehead, and so in a non-technical sense 'succeed' the Dalai Lama in this capacity.
As I think you mentioned elsewhere, there are two Karmapa candidates, once recognised by the senior regent of the Karma Kagyu, H.H. Shamarpa, and one by the Chinese Govt. and H.H. Dalai Lama. It's a very interesting story, and I wish you the best of luck with your investigations, and with your practice.
    Best wishes
