The first principle of Buddhist thinking is the principle of dependent orgination - in particular, the principle of causation. Everything that "exists" does so as the result of something that existed before it. Our minute-to-minute "reality" with all of its' arising causes and conditions, is impelled into existence by something pushing from behind, and in turn, as it shoves its' way through time, causes the on-rushing future. As a result of this, the world of apparent existence that seems to occupy our daily lives, is in fact, empty of inherent meaning.
